Admiralty Building

This building from the early seventeen hundreds became Admiralty House in the latter part of that century.

The First Lord of the Admiralty at that time was the 4th Earl of Sandwich and the ghost of his live-in mistress Martha Ray, (or Reay), assassinated in 1779 by an enraged ex-lover as she emerged from the Covent Garden Theatre, has haunted Admiralty House from that day on.

Her wandering wraith has been seen over the years by many government officials, including at least two Prime Ministers and various Cabinet Members.
