The
fearsome blood-chilling dark and shadowy apparition of the highwayman
Dick Turpin astride his mighty horse Black Bess - a huge wild-eyed,
sweating, straining obsidian beast of the night - has been chronicled
many times.
Silently galloping full-tilt across the wild and desolate parkland,
they pass by at a terrifying speed, and vanishes off into the gloom
without making a sound.
Another visitation is that of a 19th century Member of Parliament
who poisoned himself on the heath. He wears a long coat and a top
hat and is only observed at a distance.
