The spectre of a woman often seen on the great staircase of The Midland Grand Hotel (now known as St Pancras Chambers) is believed to be that of a maid employed at the hotel in the early 1900’s.

      Finding herself pregnant, out of wedlock and spurned by the father of the unborn child, this poor, sad desperate girl believed that she had no other option but to throw herself off the top floor of the great staircase and so died pitifully in the stairwell below.  Unable to pass on she has been seen sobbing silently, wringing her hands and begging forgiveness.

       Room 10 of the hotel was also considered so haunted that the chambermaids refused to enter it unless accompanied by other members of the staff. Eventually it remained locked and unused even when the hotel was full.

       Roman soldiers have also been seen to be searching the basement. Perhaps they seek the grave of Boudica, Queen of the Iceni, (who died in 62AD), which is rumoured to be situated underneath platform 10 of the adjacent Kings Cross Railway Station.
